3.5 Tonne Relief Driver/Yard Operative Required

Rawley Plant is a family-owned and run business that has been hiring portable site accommodation, toilets and welfare units to the construction industry since 1961.

This is a permanent position for a Driver/Yard Operative and is based at our depot at Harvey Road, Burnt Mills, Basildon. The role is to provide cover on the company’s range of 3.5t delivery/collection vehicles in the event of staff holidays, sickness or other absence. There is an opportunity for the right candidate to be re-trained and licenced to drive up to 7.5t. The successful applicant will work in our Accommodation Maintenance yard and report to the Yard Foreman.

Duties will include:

  • Relief Driver for the delivery & collection of hire equipment up to 3.5t including toilet service vehicles.
  • Could include towing mobile welfare units on a 3.5t vehicle
  • Assist with the cleaning, repair and painting of portable site accommodation & toilet units.
  • This might include some basic plumbing and DIY skills
  • Helping to load and unload vehicles – manually and with the aid of a forklift
  • Some cleaning & emptying of chemical toilets
  • Keeping the yard and workshop areas clean & tidy

Requirements for the job:

(Training will be given in some of the following areas if not experienced)

  • Must be fit and active, of tidy appearance and be number literate
  • Hold a clean driving licence and be able to drive up to 3.5-tonne GVW
  • 2 years experience preferable
  • B+E Entitlement would be an advantage but not essential as training will be given
  • Driver CPC Qualification and Card.
  • Requirement to attend annual Driver-CPC training on one Saturday annually
  • Some Tachograph experience and a tacho card would be an advantage
  • Willing to participate in overtime as and when required
  • Some knowledge of the local area and London
  • Good DIY skills
  • Good customer service skills and a positive can-do attitude
  • Be able to blend into a team

General Information:

Hours of work are 07.00 to 17.00hrs, with half an hour lunch break.

Overtime rate of time and a half is paid for hours worked above 8 hours each day (Monday to Friday).

Occasional weekend work may be available

The basic hourly rate will be £11.18 per hour (normal working week = £572.98 gross).

A Higher rate of pay will be paid when driving 7.5t vehicles to pump chemical toilets

Company workwear provided but must supply own safety boots. Annual contribution to boots given

20-days paid holiday per year. Up to 5-days to be taken over the Christmas period
